ABOUT THE EVENT

Dom Mariani  is an emblematic figure in Australian rock, first as the leader of the eighties garage-rock band  The Stems , later leading the power-pop group  The Someloves  and in the last decade giving a new twist to his career with the exceptional and favorites of this house  Datura 4 .

It was in 2015 (although the foundation of the band dates back a few years) when Mariani began the record history of Datura 4. A history based on an inflammable mix of rock, blues, hard-rock, boogie and psychedelia. That first album was titled  "Demon Blues"  and surprised by its exuberance and its fiery seventies tone that set eyes on references such as  Humble Pie  or  Deep Purple  to name some obvious celebrity. Since then the band has maintained a frenetic activity both in the studio and on the road, so that this summer they have released their fifth album entitled  "Neanderthal Jam"  and in October they will visit Spain again on a tour with five confirmed dates. And precisely about "Neanderthal Jam" we are going to talk in this review. A new bouquet of songs dedicated to rock and with all the flavor and above all warmth that characterizes the group. A new job that, far from losing ground with respect to its predecessors, at times it seems that it can even overtake them on the right. Without too many novelties in the stylistic formula but with a melodic ferocity and an energizing production in which the boogie sticks out with more impudence than on other occasions and a slight but perceptible greater use of the keys, the album stands out as one of the most suggestive and addictive artifacts of the current year.

Something could be predicted when in the spring they released the fantastic single  "Open the line"  which would be followed a few weeks later by the torrid  "Going back to Hoonsville"  and recently the dense and feverish funky piece  "Black speakers"  topped with an outstanding guitar part.

But this fifth volume in the history of Mariani and his people contains much more than the mentioned singles, there is not a minute to relax and each cut deserves the same attention and praise as the rest, highlighting some truly outstanding moments such as the sharp hard- rock  «Secret society» ; the plethoric boogie heavy  "Bad times"  or the restless  "Fish fry"  to name a few equally outstanding moments.

Fiery musical climax for a fiery summer also in terms of weather. The fifth by Datura 4 does not disappoint and is the addition and follow-up to one of the most outstanding trajectories of the last decade in rock.
